Bye old journal. I hate you.

I am filled with hate.

Hatred for my inability to draw recently.

Nurrrrr.

Sorry I haven't been on much. I been stressin'

Snatched from :iconteamsmithy:

1. When did you first acknowledge that you could draw well, or decided you wanted to learn to draw?

I would come up with weird comics when I was little that didn't make sense to anyone but me because the panels were in no particular order on the page. Also I love anime and coming up with stories even then.

I kept going because I was ahead of everyone else in elementary school in the drawing department. And dammit, it was my only claim to classroom fame.

2. Is there anything 'deviant' about your art, as the site's name would imply?

Probably not.

3. A video game company has put you in charge of designing a lead character for a platformer title. What have you created?

Someone awesome with emotional baggage. Like Raz from Psychonauts.

4. You just found out a 12-year-old has been heavily referencing your characters, perhaps even tracing them. What do you do?

I would be horribly flattered and visit their page every day.

5. Would you feel comfortable if your parents viewed your Deviantart gallery, or had it bookmarked?

Nononono.

6. Do you view your Deviantart account as your online professional/college portfolio? A site through which you seek critique/improvement? A social network? (All are valid.)

Definitely the last two. I'd rather have my own site for a professional portfolio so that clients or whatever couldn't see how I actually talk to people. xD Also to keep my silly characters out of the way.

7. What would it take to get you to draw porn? For those who already draw porn, why do you draw it?

I don't know. If someone asked me I probably would. Money would be a nice perk.

8. You are hired to do illustration/graphic work for a company you've hated since you were a child. For example, someone who grew up a fan of DC comics and hates Marvel is offered a job working on one of Marvel's major titles. Do you turn the job down?

Probably not. I'm broke.

9. Do you like fan art? If so, what do you look for in fan work? What makes it 'art' for you?

I like the occasional fanart. I generally look for interesting styles for characters to be portrayed in.

10. Everyone makes a big deal about 'style.' How do you define style?

I don't.

11. On a related note, how important is personal style for an artist? Should an artist's style be versatile, or would compromising their style to pander to a certain audience make them 'sell outs?'

Well, pandering is lame but sometimes you dig the audience and you go for it. Can't judge that. But I think versatility is really important and makes an artist great.

12. What would your ideal job as an artist/illustrator be?

Illustrator for fairly mature children's books. Or for gig posters and album art. And of course, comic book artist.

13. How do you feel about Western/English-language comics being made to read right-to-left as opposed to the traditional left-to-right (like untranslated/unflipped manga)?

I think it's silly. But I don't read manga much anyway so it doesn't matter to me.

14. How important do you think school/training is for art/illustration?

I know some great self-taught artists who just happened to be dedicated enough to not need/want in-school training. But I think it's important for me to have it because I lack focus and I want to learn as many different tricks and tools for the trade as I can. Also, figure drawing. I need me some figure drawing classes.

15. Who would be your desired target audience if you were to make a comic/animated project?

I have no idea. It would depend on the project. I'd like to appeal to both kids and adults.

16. You've been hired to draw a mascot for a company that you feel is a blatant racial stereotype. Do you refuse the job? Do you try to design the character in a way that lessens this factor? Do you just accept it as a job to do and the character's portrayal is the company's responsibility?

I think I'd turn it down. D:

17. What company would you absolutely die to work for? Or, what character/series would you love to work on/revive if given the option by the original creators?

Vertigo. Or something that produces more independent type comics. As for a series, I have no idea. It would be fun to give Midnight Nation another installment.

18. You're working on a comic/animation/etc that is auto-biographical. Do you base the plot completely on the actual events/characters? Or do you use new characters and settings to retell the events?

Actual events please.

19. Would you hire a writer/scripter to work on your own original comic/animation idea? Or would you want to be in control of every aspect of your creation?

I would hire a writer. I'm not confident enough about my own ideas and having someone else work on things with me helps me focus.

20. What is the best advice you could offer to an aspiring artist?

I'm an inspiring artist too, but I guess I'd say you should practice and try as many new things as possible.

21. How do you feel about having fans of your work? How far can a fan openly love your work before they start to irritate you?

Fans make me happy. I've never been irritated so I have no idea how far it can go. Even if someone got pissed because I made something different than what they like, I think I'd be amused.

22. Your favorite artist puts out a comic/animation/etc that you feel really, really sucks. Do you resell it, or keep it just because you like the art(ist)?

I honestly probably wouldn't have bought in the first place. Otherwise, I'd probably sell it.

23. How much money would you invest (travel, admission, etc) to meet your all-time favourite artist?

I'd be too shy to try.

24. What would you use a booth in a convention's 'Artist alley' for?

Again, I'm shy and not good enough.

25. What one factor immediately makes you dismiss/run away from another Deviantartist's gallery?

As Smithy said, too much fanart. Also really boring anime in general.

26. You now have children who are interested in art. In what ways do you support their interest? Do you encourage them to work in the same field as you?

I would probably end up encouraging them to work in my field even if I didn't want to steer them around. I'd also spoil them on art classes and try to teach them things and eventually annoy them so much that they'd give up. Though I would try not to. xD

27. You've just ended a very popular and financially successful project. Do you feel comfortable enough to continue living off of its success, or would you immediately want to start a new project?

I would want to start a new project. I have a lot of ideas and I love them all.

28. Say you take on the new project. Would you feel comfortable making potential flops because of your previous success/financial stability? Or would the pressure still be on?

I would probably be scared, but I like to think that it wouldn't bother me.

29. Let's say you've become a successful artist with lots of freetime. Would you indulge in a second career/hobby? If so what?

Probably mailart-related things. Already my second hobby.

30. Would you rather Devwatch a consistently amazing/established artist, or an unknown developing artist?

Developing. If you're not constantly developing and trying things, you're not an artist. I'm not sure if I can justifiably say that, though, since I need to try new things too.

31. People are making you fan art. Awesome! But at what point do you stop acknowledging/favoriting a piece of fan art? What are your limits? (Fetish art, fan characters, etc)

Gay shit for characters who aren't gay, really annoying anime that took five minutes to draw, I dunno.

32. Do you feel that if someone critiques your work, they're obligated to balance out the criticisms with praise?

Well, it would help my self-esteem if they did. But they don't need to.
I am very sensitive, though.

33. Your gallery is popular because of fan art, and your original works don't get much attention. Does this bother you?

Hugely.

34. You find out your favourite artist draws porn. Do you think "Awesome, more art to drool over!", or do you lose a lot of respect for them?

I drool.

35. How severe an offense do you find recolors/traces to be?

Only if they're getting money for them will I be offended.

36. Of all your characters to have fan art of, which would you be the most picky about?

I don't know. Red Coffee characters, which I never post here.

37. Your significant other doesn't like one of your characters/story ideas. How much do you take this into consideration?

Not much. Sometimes I don't like his metal riffs. Okay, that's not true. I'm jealous beyond belief of his musical talents. But anyway! If I thought he wouldn't like a character or story, I wouldn't mention it to him in the first place.

xD He doesn't like Gorehounds.

38. Do you think anyone can learn to draw, or that you have to be born with the skill?

I think anyone can learn, though it helps to have an inclination. They say that the reason most adults can draw above a third grade level is because that's the age other kids (or adults) would start making fun of their art. Then they'd get discouraged and not try anymore.

39. Thinking about your old art, is there anything you're ashamed of and hope will never see the light of day?

Yes. Lots. My sketchbooks from when I was 12 to 14 especially.

40. Alright. This is the end. Add a new question here for the people you tag.

I got nothin'

So my boyfriend and I decided to start rolling our own cigarettes because it's 45340976035968 times cheaper and cowboys do it. But they just wound up looking like horribly malformed joints. Practice makes perfect, I guess.

Anyway we smoked those and watched metal music videos until we fell asleep.

I should submit some actual drawings sometime methinks.
